This eight-hour course will familiarize the student with the basic handling of the baton. This course is required to be completed before submitting an Initial Baton Permit application to the BSIS and also required to be completed within six months of the permit expiration date and before submitting a renewal application. Starting January 1, 2024, baton permits will be valid for two years and require renewal, just like the Guard Card and Exposed Firearm permit. For all Baton permits issued before 12/31/2023, visit the BSIS website for important information on when your permit will expire (based on your issue month and year).
This course covers the defensive tactics, jabs, and strikes to be used when carrying a baton. The course combines lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical application of techniques.
Training will be with the four styles of baton.
Upon successfully passing the course, the student will be given a certificate of completion for their records and an instructor certification to be submitted with the application to the BSIS. Students may only possess or carry a baton once they have a valid Guard Card and Baton Permit issued by BSIS in their possession.
The cost of the Initial Baton application is $60, and the renewal application is $40 (every two years), paid to the BSIS.
